Planet Zoo lets players run a simulated zoo, but be careful with enclosures that hold more than one type of animal, as some don’t get along well with each other.

In the very realistic and immersive video game Planet Zoo, players take on the role of a zoo owner who has to build, run, and grow a profitable zoo. Players can make any size, shape, or type of zoo they want, but this gives them a lot of freedom, which can be hard at times. There are many animals to choose from, and each one has specific wants that must be met for them to be happy.

Because of this, animals that do well in multispecies areas are often the most profitable and best for new players. They can share space, often have the same needs, and get and give bonuses to the animals they share space with. Here are the best Planet Zoo animals that can live with other animals of different kinds if players want to make such enclosures.

Red Ruffed Lemur

Compatible AnimalsRing Tailed Lemur, Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur
Group Size3‒30 (up to 1 male, up to 29 females)
ReproductionEasy
Game EditionStandard

Red Ruffed Lemurs live on the island of Madagascar, which is off the southeast coast of Africa. The Ring Tailed and Black-and-White Ruffed Lemurs, which are cousins and also only live on the island, are great pets for Red Ruffed Lemurs. These three species all need about the same things: 210 m² of room, 20.0 m² of climbing space, and a tropical biome.

But the Red Ruffed Lemurs might be the best because they reach adulthood a little faster (2.5 years) and have a shorter pregnancy time (only 3 months). Also, they can’t have children until they are 20 years old.

Colombian White-Faced Capuchin Monkey

Planet Zoo Colombian White-Faced Capuchin Monkey
Compatible AnimalsBaird’s Tapir, Capybara, Giant Anteater
Group Size8-40 (up to 13 males, up to 39 females)
ReproductionEasy
Game EditionSouth America Pack

Colombian with a white face The South America Pack, one of the best add-ons for Planet Zoo, added Capuchin Monkeys and four other new animals. They come from both North America and South America. They are happy to share their home with Giant Anteaters, Baird’s Tapirs, and Capybaras because all of them will do well in a warm biome.

To keep these monkeys safe, the area needs to be 210.0 m², plus 8 m² for each Capuchin. They become fully grown at age 7, but their pregnancy lasts only 6 months.

American Bison

Planet Zoo American Bison
Compatible AnimalsBlack-Tailed Prairie Dog, Pronghorn Antelope
Group Size3-15 (up to 1 male, up to 14 females)
ReproductionVery Easy
Game EditionStandard

The American Bison benefits from having an enclosure with the Pronghorn Antelope, but not with any of the other antelope species, which is a shame. People who have the North America Animal Pack can also live with Black-Tailed Prairie Dogs. A 420.0 m² enclosure is needed for an American bison, and an extra 90 m² is needed for each person.

At age 3, they are pretty fully grown, and their gestation time is only 10 months, which isn’t very long. They like to live in grasslands where the temperature doesn’t get above 40 ℃. One thing that many new Planet Zoo players don’t know is that they can change the temperature of environments.

Koala

Compatible AnimalsRed Kangaroo
Group Size1-4 (up to 1 male, up to 3 females)
ReproductionEasy
Game EditionAustralia Pack

Koalas were added as part of the Australia Pack, which costs extra and gives you access to five new animals, new scenery, tasks, and other things. Red Kangaroos and Koalas get along well, even though they don’t live in the same biome.

Kangaroos and koalas both need 180.0 m² of space in their cage, but they don’t need water. The temperature and size of the climbing area for koalas must be 8–42 °C, and the temperature must be 12–40 °C for kangaroos. Both can easily be met.

Pronghorn Antelope

Compatible AnimalsAmerican Bison
Group Size1-11 (up to 1 male, up to 10 females)
ReproductionVery Easy
Game EditionStandard

The Pronghorn Antelope lives in North America and gets and gives a bonus when it shares room with an American Bison. It’s not very good because it can only get this bonus with one other animal. For those who want to make a zoo with a North American theme, the Pronghorn Antelope are great animals to have with the American Bison.

They only need 370 square meters of space and only take 1.5 years to fully grow. They also have a short pregnancy of 8 months. They’re great for people who want to quickly start breeding and selling.

Giant Anteater

The Giant Anteater is one of the five new animals in the South America pack DLC. The pack also includes new background pieces that make it a must-have for players who want to make zoos that look real. This animal is fine with living with Panamanian White-Faced Capuchin Monkeys (also from South America) and Baird’s Tapirs. It also doesn’t mind Maned Wolves.

When building a shelter for giant ants, you need 660 m² plus an extra 60 m² for each animal. They become fully grown in 4 years, and their pregnancies last 9 months.

Plains Zebra

Compatible AnimalsAfrican Buffalo, Black Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Common Warthog, Reticulated Giraffe, Sable Antelope, Scimitar-Horned Oryx, Southern White Rhinoceros, Springbok, Thomson’s Gazelle

The African Buffalo, the Black Wildebeest, the Common Ostrich, the Common Warthog, the Reticulated Giraffe, the Sable Antelope, and the Springbok are just a few of the grasslands animals that do better when they live with other species. All of these are in the Standard Edition of the game. Other animals that work with it are only available with extra content.

They do need a bigger plot of land—510 square meters—and can only roll in groups of six. They mature after 4 years and are pregnant for 13 months. They don’t rank high because they need a lot of room, have small herds, and take a long time to breed.

Thomson’s Gazelle

Compatible AnimalsAfrican Buffalo, Black Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Common Warthog, Plains Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Sable Antelope, Scimitar-Horned Oryx, Southern White Rhinoceros, Springbok
Group Size3‒36 (up to 1 male, up to 35 females)

The Thomson’s Gazelle is another animal from Africa that gets along with many others, like the African Buffalo, Black Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Common Warthog, Reticulated Giraffe, Sable Antelope, and Springbok.

They might be more successful than Plains Zebras because they need only 425 square meters of space, have 36-strong herds, mature in two years, and give birth in just six months. With this animal, players can quickly build up a bigger group and start making money through breeding.

Common Ostrich

Compatible AnimalsAddax, African Buffalo, Black Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Common Warthog, Nile Lechwe, Plains Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Sable Antelope, Scimitar-Horned Oryx, Somali Wild Ass, Southern White Rhinoceros, Springbok, Thomson’s Gazelle
Group Size1‒8 (up to 1 male, up to 7 females)

Game EditionStandard

The African Buffalo, the Common Warthog, the Plains Zebra, the Reticulated Giraffe, the Sable Antelope, the Springbok, and many other species from different DLCs get along with the Common Ostrich. For such a big pen (675 square meters), they can only be kept in groups of eight, which is too few for such a big pen.

It can be annoying that they take 3 years to mature, but on the plus side, they only have a 1-month gestation time. Having ostriches can be a steady way to make money almost every month, but it takes time to get to that point.

Sable Antelope

Compatible AnimalsAfrican Buffalo, Black Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Common Warthog, Plains Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Southern White Rhinoceros, Springbok, Thomson’s Gazelle
Group Size1‒11 (up to 1 male, up to 10 females)

There are many African animals that get along well with the Sable Antelope. These include the African Buffalo, the Black Wildebeest, the Common Ostrich, the Common Warthog, the Plains Zebra, the Reticulated Giraffe, and the Springbok.

The land needs to be 450 square meters, which isn’t too bad, but they only allow 11 cows. One of the pros is that Drift Boss players can form groups of bachelors instead. They only grow up for about 1.5 years, and a 9-month pregnancy isn’t too bad. They are a normal species that would do well in a multispecies cage on the African plains.

African Buffalo

Compatible AnimalsBlack Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Common Warthog, Nile Lechwe, Plains Zebra, Red River Hog, Reticulated Giraffe, Sable Antelope, Scimitar-Horned Oryx, Southern White Rhinoceros, Springbok, Thomson’s Gazelle

Other animals that live in Africa that get along with the African Buffalo are the Black Wildebeest, the Common Ostrich, the Common Warthog, the Plains Zebra, the Reticulated Giraffe, the Sable Antelope, and the Springbok. Their group size is pretty big at 15, but they only need 420 square meters of land, which is a surprise.

Their only flaw is that they take 5 years to fully develop, which can be very frustrating for players who need to make money with them right away. There may be some rough spots during the 11-month pregnancy, but the end result will be worth it.Some people say Planet Zoo is one of the hardest management games to play, but it’s also one of the most fun.

Black Wildebeest

Compatible AnimalsAfrican Buffalo, Blue Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Common Warthog, Plains Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Sable Antelope, Southern White Rhinoceros, Springbok, Thomson’s Gazelle
Group Size7‒32 (up to 1 male, up to 31 females)

People that live on the fields of Africa get along with the Black Wildebeest, the African Buffalo, the Common Ostrich, the Common Warthog, the fields Zebra, the Reticulated Giraffe, the Sable Antelope, the Springbok, and the Thomson’s Gazelle. Of course, they can also get along great with Blue Wildebeest, which are part of the Grasslands Animal Pack.

They look a lot like African Buffalo, but their breeding seasons are better. They need 410 square meters of land and come in groups of 32. At 3 years old, they are fully grown, which is better than the African Buffalo, and their babies are born after only 9 months. They are a strong species that would look good in any African plains habitat.

Springbok

Compatible AnimalsAfrican Buffalo, Black Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Common Warthog, Plains Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Sable Antelope, Southern White Rhinoceros, Thomson’s Gazelle
Group Size3‒35 (up to 1 male, up to 34 females)

Springbok get along great with African Buffalo, Black Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Common Warthog, Plain Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Sable Antelope, and Thomson’s Gazelle, which makes them great animals for multispecies areas.

Their land needs to be at least 425 square meters, and they have 35 healthy cows. The fact that they only take one year to mature and six months to conceive is their best trait. These are great animals that should be in any African multispecies area that players build. They have a lot of babies that they can sell or let go back into the wild.

Common Warthog

Compatible AnimalsAfrican Buffalo, Black Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Plains Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Sable Antelope, Springbok, Thomson’s Gazelle
Group Size1‒7 (up to 1 male, up to 6 females)
ReproductionVery Easy
Game EditionStandard

The common warthog is one of the best animals that can be put in multispecies cages in Planet Zoo. These animals, which don’t get enough attention, get along with many well-known animals, like the African Buffalo, the Black Wildebeest, the Common Ostrich, the Plains Zebra, the Reticulated Giraffe, the Sable Antelope, and the Springbok.

The fact that they only need 290 square meters of land makes them so great. They only have seven members in their group, which is a little small. Their breeding cycle isn’t too bad, taking two years to mature and six months to give birth. Players must make sure there are never more than two males to avoid fights, but these are great animals for new players because they can keep costs low, make a good profit every six months, and slowly build up to a huge African multispecies enclosure that can house the other animals on this list.

Reticulated Giraffe

Compatible AnimalsAfrican Buffalo, Black Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Common Warthog, Dromedary Camel, Nile Lechwe, Plains Zebra, Sable Antelope, Scimitar-Horned Oryx, Southern White Rhinoceros, Springbok, Thomson’s Gazelle
Group Size2‒12 (up to 4 males, up to 8 females)
ReproductionVery Easy
Game EditionStandard

The African Buffalo, the Black Wildebeest, the Common Ostrich, the Plains Zebra, the Common Warthog, the Sable Antelope, and the Springbok get along with the Reticulated Giraffe. These species are included in the Standard Editions. Because they are friendly and live in large groups in the wild, they are the best animals for Planet Zoo to live with other species.

Reticulated Giraffes need a huge area that’s 1,306 square meters. They usually live in groups of 12 animals, and males don’t fight as much as males of other species do. But they take 4 years to fully mature and a huge 15 months to give birth, so it takes a while to raise a herd and start selling the babies. Another great thing about Planet Zoo is that you can earn conservation points by taking care of Reticulated Giraffes.
